Al-Hadas: Gulf states to discuss Syria's return to the Arab League

The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf (GCC) at its meeting on Friday will discuss the issue of restoring Syria's full membership in the League of Arab States (LAS), Al-Hadas TV channel reported.
The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf includes Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia, reports TASS.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari said that " Doha has already received an invitation from the GCC general secretariat for a meeting to be held next Friday in the Saudi city of Jeddah." Al-Ansari noted that "the purpose of the upcoming consultative meeting is to discuss the situation in Syria and exchange views on its return to the Arab League."
Recall that Syria's membership in the Arab League was frozen in November 2011, after the start of the armed conflict in the country. A number of Arab countries have withdrawn their ambassadors from Damascus. The Arab League did not actually take part in the negotiations on a settlement in Syria.
In 2019, it was reported that the Arab League discussed the possibility of returning Syria's place in the organization.
